Summary

The Superintendent – Maintenance Planning is responsible for leading the site's maintenance planning function to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of maintenance activities across the manufacturing facility. This role develops and enforces maintenance planning standards, work management processes, and best practices that improve equipment reliability, maintenance productivity, and schedule compliance. Working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Engineering, and Procurement, the Superintendent ensures high-quality work packages, optimized SAP/CMMS utilization, effective turnaround planning, and continuous improvement of maintenance workflows. This is a salaried exempt, day shift position designated as Safety Critical.

Description

  • Lead the Maintenance Planning team and establish standardized planning processes, workflows, and work management best practices.
  • Develop, coach, and mentor Maintenance Planners while fostering a culture of accountability, procedural discipline, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure high-quality maintenance job plans are developed for preventive, corrective, capital, and turnaround work, including scope, procedures, drawings, labor estimates, materials, tools, equipment, permits, and safety requirements.
  • Standardize and maintain reusable job plans to improve planning efficiency and execution quality.
  • Partner with Maintenance, Operations, Reliability, Engineering, and Procurement to prioritize work and maximize maintenance effectiveness.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on eliminating non-value-added work, improving schedule compliance, and increasing maintenance productivity.
  • Ensure accurate labor, contractor, material, and service estimates to support budgeting and resource planning.
  • Oversee procurement activities for maintenance materials and services, including requisitions, purchase orders, and goods receipt processes.
  • Lead planning activities for major turnarounds, outages, and capital maintenance projects.
  • Champion effective utilization of SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) and Materials Management (MM) modules to improve work management processes and asset performance.
  • Analyze maintenance planning and execution metrics to identify opportunities for improvement and optimize maintenance performance.
  • Participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations and ensure corrective actions are incorporated into future maintenance strategies.
  • Oversee equipment master data, spare parts optimization, and maintenance documentation to support long-term asset reliability.
  • Serve as the primary planning interface with contractors and vendors during maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM), environmental, and safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Maintenance Management, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive maintenance planning, maintenance, reliability, or turnaround experience within a chemical manufacturing or other Process Safety Management (PSM) environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing maintenance planning functions or maintenance support teams.
  • Extensive knowledge of rotating and fixed equipment, including pumps, piping systems, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, valves, and related process equipment.
  • Expert knowledge of maintenance planning, preventive maintenance, work management, scheduling, and turnaround planning processes.
  • Advanced proficiency with SAP Plant Maintenance (PM), Materials Management (MM), and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Experience implementing or optimizing SAP/CMMS front-end work management processes is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance workflows, planning standards, and process discipline, with a focus on improving planning quality and eliminating non-value-added work.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, equipment drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation.
  • Experience managing contractor work scopes, procurement activities, and maintenance cost control.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience utilizing KPIs and maintenance performance metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership style focused on standardization, workflow optimization, planning quality, and operational excellence.
