Summary

The Process Engineer provides technical support to manufacturing operations with a focus on achieving plant objectives related to safety, quality, production, and cost. This position is responsible for process optimization, troubleshooting, process design recommendations, plant trials, and developing process improvements and capital projects. The Process Engineer also supports Process Safety requirements through Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) activities and may provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers and technicians. This is a safety-critical role within a chemical manufacturing environment.

Description

  • Provide day-to-day process engineering support to manufacturing operations with an emphasis on safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and develop engineering recommendations to improve safety, quality, production, reliability, and cost.
  • Perform process optimization studies, plant trials, and technical evaluations of existing chemical manufacturing processes.
  • Develop process design recommendations and engineering scope for process improvements and capital projects.
  • Perform engineering assignments supporting larger capital, process improvement, and operational initiatives.
  • Evaluate technical problems, select appropriate engineering methods, and develop practical design recommendations.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and other Process Safety activities associated with process changes and plant operations.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical documentation, design information, and other project deliverables.
  • Participate in defining engineering approaches and planning and scheduling engineering work.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineers and technicians as appropriate.
  • Support successful completion of assigned project activities within established schedule and cost requirements.
  • Apply an understanding of maintenance practices to troubleshoot equipment problems and improve equipment performance and reliability.
  • Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and other plant functions to troubleshoot operational and process performance issues.
  • Initiate process improvement ideas and build organizational support to develop viable opportunities into projects.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with plant and business objectives.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable SHE policies, procedures, Process Safety requirements, and plant safety standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 0–5 years of Process Engineering or similar engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of chemical process unit operations, including chemical reactors, distillation, heat transfer, evaporation, drying, milling, filtration, pumping, fluid flow, material handling, and plant support services.
  • Experience supporting chemical manufacturing processes and process equipment preferred.
  • Ability to apply chemical engineering principles to process troubleshooting, optimization, and process design.
  • Ability to develop and evaluate process design scopes for new and existing chemical processes.
  • Understanding of Process Safety principles and experience participating in Process Hazard Analysis activities preferred.
  • Ability to analyze operating problems, identify root causes, develop alternatives, and recommend practical technical solutions.
  • Knowledge of statistical design and evaluation methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within cross-functional plant teams.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to utilize engineering and data-analysis tools.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work across Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and plant leadership.
  • Experience with titanium tetrachloride (TiCl₄) and titanium dioxide (TiO₂) manufacturing is a plus.
  • Ability to work a salaried day-shift schedule and provide off-hours technical support as required.
